Kynnefjäll has many beautiful and unique attractions. Here we suggest some places that are often visited and appreciated by our guests. You get around our area by walking one of Kynnefjäll’s hiking trails. If you choose to travel by car, we also recommend a trip on the scenic blue-green road, road 165. It stretches from Dingle and goes all the way to Halden in Norway.

Moose safari – on your own

During the winter months, the moose stay inside the forest where there is food and shelter. But in the spring, when the grass starts to sprout, they find their way out to open meadows and farm again.

For those of our guests who are interested, we are happy to advise on when and where to go to have the greatest chance of seeing moose mainly during spring and summer at Kynnefjäll.

Save Kynnefjäll’s Watchman’s Cottage

Along Bohusleden you will find the Vaktarstugan.
Kynnefjäll is known for a long-standing local opposition to the disposal of nuclear waste. The mountain was guarded around the clock for about 20 years during the 1980s and 1990s by the action group Save Kynnefjäll from a small cabin. The cabin is located on the southern part of the mountain. The cottage is, since it was moved across the road, protected and looked after by the association.
The Guinness Book of Records states that it is the longest protest action in the world in terms of time. The guard against the atomic waste lasted a total of 19 years, nine months and 17 days.

Älgafallet

If you drive along the blue-green road, you will come to Älgafallet/Elgåfossen, which is a border river between Sweden and Norway. The fall is 46 meters high and has an exciting frontier history and interesting cultural monuments. There is a rest area with toilets and a walking path to the waterfall.

Björnås Cave

Björnås Cave, an exciting little cave on Kynnefjäll. Go via Kvarnleden from Lilla Röd and then follow signs towards Björnås Cave. Take the opportunity to write your name in the guest book while you’re there!

Kasebo

The popular walking area at Kasebo is located in the southern part of the nature reserve, only about 12 km hiking from our facility.

Fjällgården Kasebo, located northeast of Vaktarekullen, is an important connection point for hiking on Bohusleden and other hiking trails on Kynnefjäll.

The walkway from the parking lot to the wind shelter and the barbecue area by the small Holmevattnet is accessible. If you don’t want to hike there, the easiest way to get to the area is by car to the farm Kasebo.

Hiking tips! Park at Kasebo and walk 12 km down to us at KynnefjällsNatur, eat a good dinner in the evening. Sleep in comfortable beds, eat breakfast and pack a lunch. The next day you hike back to your car at Kasebo where there are even more trails to explore.

Bluegreen Road

The border crossing runs between the municipality of Tanum in Sweden and the municipality of Halden in Norway. On the Swedish side, the place is called Vassbotten, while on the Norwegian side it is called Holtet. The road that crosses the border here runs between Halden in Norway and Munkedal in Sweden – on the Norwegian side it is called Riksväg 22 and in Sweden the road is called Länsväg 165 – often called the blue-green road due to its beautiful surroundings with lakes and forests. The road is an alternative route to the E6 over Svinesund when traveling between Oslo and Gothenburg, but is mostly used by locals and tourists.

Windbreak Äntevatnet

Windbreak for overnight stay. There is also a “toilet” and barbecue area here. Located along stage 19 LUNDEN – VAKTAREKULLEN on Bohusleden.

Vaktarekullen

Accommodation cabin that is always open. It is run by the Västkuststiftelsen and has 12 beds, a stove, firewood, a drying rack and a source of water that should be boiled for safety’s sake. This cabin is the final destination on stage 19 of the Bohusleden.
