Kynnefj\u00e4ll is known for a long-standing local opposition to the disposal of nuclear waste in the area. The mountain was guarded around the clock for around 20 years during the 1980s and 1990s by the action group Save Kynnefj\u00e4ll from a small cabin. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the longest protest action in the world in terms of time. A gravel road leads here from the larger road at S\u00f6bb\u00f6n (north of Hedekas).
